Cultural Performance Groups |

One of the most noteable features of Destiny Church is its many differenct cultures. Auckland is the largest Polynesian city in the world, home to over 300,000 Maori and Pacific Island people. There are also large European, Asian and South African populations but ethnic groups from all corners of the world have a presence in Auckland, making it by far the country's most cosmopolitan city. This cultural diversity is reflected in the people of Destiny Church and its many cultural performing arts groups. Huge groups of performers come together for the annual Church Conference held every Labour Weekend to showcase some of the cultures making up the people of Destiny Church.Maori, the Tangata whenua or first people of New Zealand, form a large part of the church. Destiny Church is well known for its performance of the fearsome Haka which has been used on several occasions to make public stands for Christ. Pacific Islanders also make up a large part of the church and are well known for their impressive creative and performing arts prowess. The Samoan group is very popular at the annual church conferences and is characterised by its warm, high energy performances. Of course cultural performing is not restricted to your own cultural group and in fact people of any ethnicity are encouraged to join in with any cultural performing group they like. |
